About Meeker, Colorado
A Quaint and Affordable Destination
What makes Meeker one of Colorado’s best-kept “secret” vacation destinations? Meeker isn’t really secret after all, but we know the wonderful feeling that comes with discovering a quiet vacation destination that’s quaint, affordable and convenient, but with all of the fun adventures and amenities of more expensive and crowded resort towns!
Things To Keep In Mind
Before you visit Meeker, it’s important to know what you should expect from Meeker’s altitude, climate, and the Interstate and highway that connects Meeker with Denver and the Denver International Airport, the nearest international airport. Our beautiful mountain town is only a four-hour drive from the Denver International Airport under optimal conditions! In the winter, it is important to ensure that both Interstate 70 and Highway 13 are open before leaving the Denver Metro area. The Colorado Department of Transportation’s COTrip site provides up-to-date information on winter road closures.
Prepare For The Weather and Altitude
Nestled at a comfortable 6,240 feet above sea level in the naturally-stunning White River Valley of northwestern Colorado, Meeker provides all of the scenic beauty of some of Colorado’s most famous mountain towns, but at a reasonable elevation that’s easier to acclimate, especially for visitors flying into Denver. Sperling’s BestPlaces recently gave Meeker a comfort index of 63, compared to a national average of 54!
When visiting Meeker, don’t forget your sunglasses, as we enjoy over 230 days of sunshine a year! While the winter months are cold and snowy, the late spring and summer months are moderately hot and arid, with average high temperatures in the mid-80s. Don’t forget to also pack a water bottle, as consuming water on a regular basis while visiting Meeker can help alleviate the effects of the altitude and prevent dehydration.
